SEEREN2

Definition :
SEEREN2 (www.seeren.org) constitutes a GRNET initiative and aims at the upgrade of the regional Research and Educational Internet Network in SA Europe that will cover the needs f the Research, Academic and Scholastic community of its countries. It is funded by the 6th FP /DGINFSO of the European Committee.
Duration :
30 months: 1/10/2005 to 31/03/2008
Objectives :
SEEREN2 aims at the consolidation of a Balkan network of advanced services, at Pan European level. This way scientific and research cooperations between the Balkan communities and the respective European are promoted. Morespecifically, theprojectaimsat:
- helping the future academic and research networks in order to able to set up and get incorporated in the Pan European GENT2 network.
- the infrastructure upgrade of the academic and research networks, as well as the between them connection. In regards to its predecessor (SEEREN1), the network infrastructure has been substantially upgraded both in performance issues and services provided. The new characteristic of the network is that the incorporation of network and computing infrastructures focus on the “integration” with the respective Pan European actions (GEANT2, EGEEII).
- the assurance of the effective development of the advanced services. The afore mentioned is achieved with the constant education of the technical personnel and and the “dissemination” proceedings of the results, such as the creation of promotional material, paper publications and participation in international conferences.

SEEREN2 is part of the kind projects that belong to the specialized supportive actions (SSA) and it is co-funded by the 6th FP.
